Culture during Easter
Our town is a pretty small town, we guess.
It contains about 30 000 persons, well actually less.
It's often said that it is uneventful and blue.
We decided to inspect if that's really true.
Here follows our summary of the events during last week.
So enough with this drivel, let's have a peek.
Theatre
On the 25th of March a play called "Vi gråter också, faktiskt" (We cry too, actually) was performed 3 times and there were 200 persons at each show. The play was about alcohol, drugs, sex and telephones. I
t contained about 20 scenes and it was made by teenagers, with teenagers and for teenagers. They had been practising for 2 months and the audience liked it very much. It was a very funny play.
Art exhibition
From the 22nd of March to the 6th of April there has been an art exhibition at The Town Hall in the middle of Örnsköldsvik. The arti
sts were Vide Jansson and his son Theo Johnsson. It was a very interesting exhibition with very nice paintings and sculptures. Vide had a very interesting way of performing his art. He had glued together pieces of wood and painted them in bright colours.
Theo had made all the sculptures. They were made of wood, glass or other materials.
A favourite is called "Gärsgård" and it was beautifully blue and made of sticks that were glued together. It made a really strong first impression.
From the 16th of February to the 13th of April there has been another art exhibition at Kulturfabriken. All the paintings and sculptures were made by artists that live or have lived in Örnsköldsvik and wer
e born in the 40´s, 50´s or 60´s.
A favourite was a sculpture of glass made by Helena Byström. It was named "Kupande händer" and it was two cupped hands in very pale pink.
Parken
On Thursday, March the 27, there was a disco at Folkets park (The People's Park, called Parken) here in Örnsköldsvik for people in the age 16 and older. It started at 21.00 but most of the youth arrived a
t 22.00. Why people didn't show up earlier was because most of them were at parties before they went to Parken. The disco ended at 01.00.
There were 700 people there, and about 5 were taken by the police because they had been drinking. If the police had checked all the kids, they would have noticed that many had had some alcohol.
And even if there were a lot of drunk kids it was rather calm there. No big fights.
There use to be a disco at Parken once a month and that is really too few because we don't have many disco places to go to. So Parken attracts a lot of people.
The Museum
And when it comes to culture in Örnsköldsvik, it could be appropriate to mention the Museum.
The Museum building, completed in 1905 served as a grammar school, a technical institution and a Town Library until it became the Museum of Örnsköldsvik in 1979.
It consists of four floors with the following permanent exhibitions: "History of Nomad people", "Trade activities during the 18th century", "Prehistoric presentation" and "History of Örnsköldsvik".
Last week's special was the Folk arts exhibition. Provincial peasant arts were represented by carved and painted wooden furniture and other articles made of wood from three centuries, 1600-1800.
Paradisbadet
During the Easter holiday in Sweden it is pretty cold and snowy. Therefore it isn't possible to swim outside and then "Paradisbadet"
here in Örnsköldsvik is a good alternative. In Örnsköldsvik, we have one of Northern Europe's best indoor swimming baths. There are two tunnel slides, one of which is 100 meters long and winds in a spiral both indoors and outside the building. "Paradisbad
et" also contains wild rapids, jacuzzis, relaxation rooms with steam sauna and an icy cold pool to cool off in. There's also an outdoor pool. Beside the adventure section, there is a 25 meter long pool for those who just want to exercise. But Paradisbadet
doesn't just contain a bath, you can also do a lot of other things, from aerobics, personal massage, to dancing and relaxing in the café. So if you visit Örnsköldsvik I think you should visit "Paradisbadet" too.
