The first advent the assemblies had the primary reading from the new Bible revision. In the cathedral in Uppsala the reception of the Bible of 2000 during a ceremonial, where among the others the King Carl XVI Gustav, and the Queen Silvia were present. The First Bible The first bible came in 1541 and was called Gustav Vasa’s Bible. It was renewed and provided with a table of contents in 1703 and that bible was called Karl XII ’s Bible. In 1917 it was replaced by the translation we have used until today. |

The Dead Sea Scrolls The Dead Sea Scrolls which have been written 100 years before Christ, were found in caves by the Dead Sea in 1947. With help of the Dead Sea Scrolls, it has been easier to revision the text, because they have given new and important information. Bible of 2000 The Bible of 2000 has been revised bit for bit from 1972. 1981 came the New Testament in a new revision, and in 1986 came the Apocrypha on a new revision. The whole revision work with the Bible of 2000 took 27 years. One of the persons who wrote the new Bible is Agneta Pleijel. It’s a big project which lies behind her, she sat with the commission in the quality of a stylist. It has been a big adventure and she has learnt very much during the work. It isn’t only a book, it’s a history of culture. It will never happens again, not in this way. The Bible has inspired her, she calls "Höga Visan" one of the biggest love poems. The original texts were in Hebrew and they are up to 3000 years old. The people who have written the bible were from kings to prisoners of war. To explain the text from Hebrew to natural and understandable Swedish is big work. The people who have struggled with the translation have been experts on many different areas. The bible contains poetry, songs, history, biographies, letters and prophecies. The texts were written for services, plays, private devotion and songs. The Bible of 2000 is written in a natural, understandable and present-day Swedish, compared with the Church Bible which is archaic and hard to understand. How much does a Bible cost? The usual Bible costs about 110 Swedish crowns and more expensive variants in leather cost up to 300 Swedish crowns. The Bible on CD-ROM costs about 200 crowns. Despite the Bible of 2000 has come out the old Church Bible is still available if you want it.
