ITALIAN PEOPLE LEAVE THEIR CARS IN GARAGE

Today it is the second Sunday on foot in 145 cities in Italy.

Rome- A kind revolution, which should infect other days of the week. So Grazia Francescato, leader of  "VERDI" (the Green Party),defines the Sunday on foot that will interest, today for the second time, 18 millions of Italians who live in 145 cities.

"It has arrived again- says Francescato- the smile day: Today millions of citizens will be able to take over of their

cities,  conquerer  them not like a crowded space, chaotic and hostile, but like a meeting place, to walk, to live better".

In those days of  increased cost of gasoline, the Sunday on foot helps not only the health, but also it

holds full  Italian pockets. In an only day, the 18 millions of Italians who live in the cities of the ecological Sunday,

economize infact more of  74 billions of  liras in fuel, spared for the not use of cars. The city where the people save

much more is naturally Rome, the fullest city of cars. On a Sunday on foot 6.988.000 litres of fuel remain in the

dispenser about 14 billions of liras. Then follows Milan with 3.439.000 litres not used, and 6,9 billions of liras spared.

Every Sundays other cities join the initiative. Among these, Florence and Bolzano. Torino an Milan aren’t includede among from  the most ecological cities, because they will be closed only at the centre of town. While the others ,Neaples, Salerno, Foggia, and Ferrara, close all cities to the cars.

Some Italian town Council, are resorted at the block the traffic of cars  to fight the air pollution.

It's been so long  time that the pollution levels of air are over  the limits and a large number of town Council have decided

this initiative. The citizens  generally  agree with  this opportunity, even if  the common opinion think that only once a month isn’t very useful, because all the people should think to protect the their environment and this shouldn't be imposed from the state.

In our opinion, the Sunday without cars, should become a custom, both to purge the air at least once a week,

and because, in this way, people can discover the beauty of a different and relaxing day.

Of course it won't be easy, but I trust that we will reach good results.
