The legend Art Garfunkel came to Örnsköldsvik
One of the world’s most famous artists, Art Garfunkel, was here in Örnsköldsvik to have
a music performance. Many people came to see him and Kempehallen was filled with
song and music. His career begun together with his neighbour and friend Paul Simon.
But nowadays he’s doing everything by himself. And he’s doing it great.
The 21th of September was the date when Art Garfunkel came to us in Örnsköldsvik. It was a
very special day for a lot of people that adore him. He had many great musicians with him.
They gave a fabulous show in Kempehallen.
There was about 1800 people there to see him. It seems to be a lot, but it was 700 less than the
arranger had hoped. But everyone who was there enjoyed the show.
HockeyarenaArt Garfunkel performed in Kempehallen, which usually is a hockeyarena, where our great
hockeyteam MODO plays. But when Garfunkel sang there was no sign of the hockeyarena.
The darkish light was just perfect. It gave us a romantic feeling which fit wonderfully to his
romantic songs.
His voice made us shudder, when he sang all the beautiful ballads. When he and his band
played faster songs, everyone clapped their hands.

When Art was 11 years old he started to compete in contests at school. But then he found a
great singer in his neighbor Paul Simon. They started a unique duet together. In 1957 they got
their first contract and they started to perform as Simon and Garfunkel. They made a lot of
great songs together. For example; "The Sounds of Silence", " America", "Mrs. Robinson",
"Cecilia", "Bridge over troubled waters " and many more.
The duo separated and today both of them perform on their own. One of Garfunkel´s best
songs on his own is "Bright eyes", at least if you ask us.
Family
Art Garfunkel is very happy with his life. He’s married to Kim Cermack. She’s a young
beautiful actress and singer. They have a son together, James, who is nine years old.
He is a copy of his father. Both of them have redblond curls and high hairheld
Take the chance
We are very happy that we got the chance to see Art Garfunkel. Some people say that he isn’t
as good on his own as he was with Paul Simon. But we think that the show he gave us was
good enough ! We enjoyed every minute we listened to him and we hope that you’ll get the
chance to see him too. You’ll enjoy it as much as we did. We promise !
