Alcoholism: The facts!!

There has been an increase in the number of children underage drinking, which isn’t being taken notice of. Children as young as ten or eleven are drinking alcohol in excessive amounts, most of the children ending up in hospital, as a result of being in an accident or needing their stomach pumped. Everyone is aware of the drug problem so why not the alcohol problem.

There has also been a huge increase in youth crime, are the two related? Many more young people are involved in stealing, assault, and joy riding and let’s not forget drinking.

The question still remains, why has there been such an increase in underage drinking? Are the shops that sell alcohol to blame, as they are not as stroked as they should be, they should ask people for identification of their age.. Is it the fault of the parents, children are aloud to stay out later, they have far more freedom and children have far more money these days.

Not only has underage drinking been on the increase, so has legal drinking by adults. Consumption in the UK at present is at eight litres of absolute alcohol per head per year, 93% of British men and 87% of British women drink alcohol on a regular basis. The consequences of this are extremely noticeable.. Car crashes in the UK due to people under the influence of alcohol has also increased. 1000 people are killed and

20 000 hospitalised every single year.

Isn’t is a coincidence that the demand for therapy for alcoholics has increased in the last ten years, waiting lists in the UK are reaching up to around five months.

The effects of drinking alcohol in excessive amounts are terrible . It can result in high blood pressure, alcohol poisoning, infertility and even death.

Something really needs to be done about this problem before it gets any worse. Letting children drink from such an early age is resulting in problem in later life. Laws and limits need to be tightened so that it is more difficult to for children and adults to drink excessive amounts.

Hayley Bell the good looking one.
