Do Young People Exercise To Little ?
In to days society young people rather sit in front of the TV or the computer then being outside.
Many students sees the opportunity to exercise on the gymnastic classes and on the activities that the schools sport association arrange. Like many other schools the Park School has its own sport association called PIF.
The organisation
On the board there are six members from different classes, the board has it own president, secretary and treasurer. Our assistant head master Rymond Gran is their guide and link to the rest of the school. The board is elected for one year. The present board resign before the Christmas semester, at this way the new board can get some help from the old one during their first period.
Goals
The P.I.F. has put up some goals for this year:
- The first and most important goal is the membership cards. This year it would be real cards and each member would have a number. The board has worked hard with the sponsorship and the lamination of the membership cards.
- The board are planing a football-night-tournament together with Nolaskolan, the other secondary school in Örnskoldsvik, which would be a smart thing, then the youth both exercise and get together with other people.
- If someone on the school would like to do to local district championship P.I.F. supports the athlete by paying the charges for the student.
- organize so the students get to use the school gymnastic equipment and the gymnastic hall after school time. One person is responsible for each activity and takes care of the keys to the gymnastic hall.
Raymond Gran tells us that the association has no economical problems, there is money in P.I.F. The only thing that can stop the development is the students their self. It is important that the students get this information, so they can get the opportunity to exercise more.
Problems?
Many students perhaps think that it is to expensive to go and exercise on a trainingclub or be a member in a special sport association. This is the perfect chance to get almost free exercise with many training alternatives.
We have asked our school nurse if she has seen any change in young peoples exercise habits.
-I can’t say that I have seen any change during the twenty years I’ve been here. The only thing that I can say is that young people often exercise too much for their own good, or they don’t exercise at all.
She also said that the problems can come later because in our 9-year compulsory school it’s seen that kids rather sits in front of a computer game or the TV. In about ten years this is going to be shown as a problem.
We have also talked with our gymnastic teacher and she said that she can’t see any bigger change during her time in this school. But she has notice that it’s a bigger group of students that don’t exercise at all, but in the other hand the group that exercises often are still the same. Her advice to people that don’t train at all is to start slow with long walks and maybe some other kind of (motionering).
Boys and girls exercise in different ways
Girls often train to get a more good-looking body end get satisfied with them selves. The boys exercises often to get big muscles and for their own good, they need to prove that they are someone. Our gymnastic teacher also said that she hasn’t seen so many students with training problems, the ones that she has had, has realised it on their own. On the other side, she doesn’t encourage to start a diet, instead she thinks that you should change your food habits, eat a little more vegetables. The most important is that you like what you do and that you are happy with yourself.
