The Freeway Conference in Sweden

We (Charlotte and Rebecca) arrived in Sweden from England on Saturday the 17th of February and were met by Lina Brännström at the airport. After a very bad flight we were not sure what to expect and the first thing we saw was snow, but luckily it was not too cold. From the beginning we were looking forward to the editors meeting and discussing with the Swedish team the articles and the future of Freeway.

Paradisbadet

On our first whole day in Sweden (18th February) our host and two of her friends came with us to the Paradisbadet where Sweden’s longest water slide is. The water was warm and the slides were fun and we even swam in an outside pool surrounded by snow. Lina, Jimmy and Marcus showed us the wonderful Swedish tradition of swimming and then eating ice-cream. The swim was nice and the ice-cream was even better.

Meeting the Editors

On Monday morning the editors met with Rebecca and Charlotte to talk about Freeway. We compared our way of working and their way of working with Freeway, and we think it was quite similar. We also thought that it would be good with more videoconferences because then you get direct contact with one another. In addition we thought that the articles should be more personal rather than formal and with more opinions. We talked about many different things about our countries, for example about moose and the English tea drinking.

Skiing

On Tuesday (20th February) in Örnsköldsvik we were taken skiing in Bjästa with members of the Freeway team. Despite the fact that we were very nervous it did not go too badly, we managed to avoid all trees and stay standing most of the time! It was definitely different skiing on real snow in comparison with the fake snow which we have in Britain, it was a lot better and didn’t hurt as much when we fell over. We have loved our time in Sweden but just wish we could have stayed longer. The Freeway team are all great and we have made many friends in the short time which we have been here.

The Final Day

In the afternoon we are going to talk to our classes about what we have done this week. After having a snack everyone in both classes are going to write comments about the articles and some to the writers. Then, we are going to write some e-mails to the people in the cluster groups. Following this we are going home and the English go back to Britain tomorrow.
