New Swedish films

The year 2000 has been a great year for Swedish films. We have chosen three of them, Jalla! Jalla!, Life is a pop-song (Livet är en schlager) and Gossip to write about.

Jalla! Jalla!

This is a film directed by Josef Fares and the story is about two guys, Roro- a black boy, and Måns- a skinhead.
They are friends and work in a park- picking up dog messes!!

The vacillating Roro is in love with Lisa, but he doesn’t dare to show his Swedish girlfriend to his relations. His relations are working very hard to marry him to Jasmine. Jasmine has to be married quickly, otherwise she’ll be sent back to Lebanon. The solution that they pretend to be married brings hard complications.

Life is a pop-song! (Livet är en schlager)

This is a Swedish comedy and the story is about Mona whose biggest dream is to be on stage singing popmusic.

Mona has four daughters and she has given them names from her idols: Carola, Lena Ph, Kicki and Anna Book, who all have been in The EurovisionSongContest.
Mona is a personal assistant to a young handicapped boy, David, who is musically talented. When Mona listens to his song she writes a text to it and sends the pre-recorded cassette to the EurovisionSongContest.

One day Mona gets the news that she is one of the participants in the EurovisionSongContest. Mona becomes a famous person and after that nothing is the same again.

Gossip

Colin Nutley is a producer and he has made a lot of films, one example is "Änglagård". And now he has made a new film, "Gossip".
The story is about 10 actresses. In the film we follow them from morning to night, at work and in their sparetime, at rehearsals and theatrical performances.

The women are really good friends but also competitors because 9 of them have a screen test for an American new recording of Garbo's classic film "Queen Kristina".

One day is a very special day for a lot of reasons, one of the actresses has her 40th birthday and it’s the same day they will to know who is going to play "Queen Kristina"

We have seen two of these films: Gossip and Life is a pop-song. We think that Life is a pop-song was better because Gossip was very hard to watch, it kind of never ends.
