We’ve chosen to see a romantic film that is quite new, Chocolat by the Swedish producer Lasse Hallström. Chocolat was nominated for five Oscars. Juliette Binoche, Johnny Depp and Peter Stormare are big actors in the film. The story is about a woman who comes to a small town with her daughter. The town is very religious and the people are very conservative. And when the woman, Vianne opens a chocolate café in the middle of the Lent they get very suspicious of her. Especially the mayor wants her to go away because she disturbs the order in the town. What he doesn’t know is that everything gets worse when the seapeople come to the town. The seapeople are like the gypsy but they travel on the river with boats. The film includes a of lot love, anger, sadness and friendship. And it was a very beautiful film. We thought the film was very good and we recommend you to see it. Cast Away We also saw a quite different film from Chocolat, Cast Away. Cast Away by Robert Zemeckis with actors like Tom Hanks, Helen Hunt and Nick Searcy, is a drama which is a new version of Daniel Defoe’s classical story about Robinson Crusoe. Tom Hanks as Chuck Noland is a very busy and stressed man. When he’s in a tragical aeroplane crash and ends up on a desert island he has to survive on his own with only the small conditions that are offered. Most of the film takes place on the island where he tries to keep his mood up and get home. We thought the film was a bit long-winded but also quite good. Those who liked the book Robinson Crusue should definite see this film. The fantastic film world The film industry takes a lot of place in our lives, just think about all the films that are shown on television and all the glory and festivals around it, for example the famous and prestigious Oscar Awards where big actors, great producers and other people around the film get nominated in different categories for a great work during the year. And the winner gets the fantastic and beautiful prize, the Oscar Statue. So the film industry has grown very big the last century and it’s really great. But we get a lot of influences from the film industry, so is it in a good or a bad way? It’s a hard question to answer maybe, maybe not. But one thing is for sure, that the film industry will grow bigger and get better. © 2001 Freeway Writers: Annika Andersson (sp03-26@park.se)and Linnéa Andersson (sp03-27@park.se).
