Comparing universities in Italy and in Sweden

In Sweden and in Italy there are a number of different kinds of Universities. To be able to start the University you must have a final certificate from Upper Secondary School or you can go through an adult education to get extra points.

In Sweden we have different kinds of Universities, for example we have KTH, the Royal Technical Institute and Chalmers, which also is a Technical Institute. To be able to go to a University you must have a final certificate, you can try to get in only on your College exam but if you want to complete that exam you can take a high school test, if you do well on that test it can help you attend the program you want. If you do not have the certificate you need to attend the program, you can go through an adult education, this is a kind of school were you can study some subjects to get a better grade and perhaps after a year you will be able to enter the University.

An University in Piacenza

In Italy the universities are equal to the ones we have in Sweden. In Italy they have a similar system as in Sweden, it exists both theoretical and practical Universities.
In Italy they have two different kinds of lessons, one is the ordinary one and most common when the teacher is standing in front of the class talking and the students take notes, the other one is when they work in small or large groups and show the result that for the teacher or for the whole class, in Sweden we have that as well

The University of the Sacred Heart
The University of the Sacred Heart

In 1921 Father Agostino Gemelli discovered an University in Milan, it i called "The Catholic University of the Sacred Heart". It got its name from…. The University is an important research and educational institution which exists all over the country The four University sites in Milan, Piacenza-Cremona and in Rome offer 40,000 students clearly-defined educational programmes. The conferral of a degree or diploma is only the first step in the University’s educational programme, because it is a necessity in professional life. Throughout their university time the students are encouraged to make contact with the working world outside their studies. This Catholic University was the first in Italy to publish their own house, called "Vita e Pensiero".

Mentor system

In the University of the Sacred Heart it exists a mentor system. That mean that each teacher are like a mentor for some students, around 40-50 students. They have to take "care" of them and help them with their studying.
Around 60% of the students do not pass the final test and have to leave the school.

From three to five and a half year

In Sweden the University are from three up to five and an half year. How many years you study depends on which program you choose.

In Italy the University are for three or for five years. After three years you will make a test. Most of the students choose to study another two years to be more sure that you will get an job when you quit.

My personal thoughts is that you must have a good education to get a good job and if you have an opportunity to study two more years I think you should take it. What do you think?
