Fashion! Mode! Modo!
(Fashion in three languages)

Young fashion in Sweden…We believe that Swedes are fashion conscious. Swedish teens care a lot about what they wear. Clothes are not just fashion they can also express lifestyles and personality. We don’t know about other countries but in Sweden there are several different tastes in clothing. Many people dress after a special kind of music. For example hiphoppers, rockers, punk rockers, geek style, gothics etc.

The jeans trend
Jeans, jeans, jeans…look left, look right, it’s everywhere! Look out you might become a "jeansoholic"! The stores are cram-full with hundreds of jeans, denim-jackets, denim-dresses/skirts, bikinis, shoes, underwear, pyjamas, shorts, shirts, handbags and a lot of accessories. So, you who adore denim, must be in heaven! Right now in Sweden there are very much stonewashed jeans and denim on the whole. Now when the summer arrives the denim colour should be slightly lighter. But we guess that denim is a big fashion-trend all over Europe. We also think that jeans and denim never get out of date. The fashion-craze this summer will probably be a kind of crochet caps. It all began when an elderly lady started making these popular caps for the Big Brother members, and now it’s grown to a huge fashion-craze in Sweden.

The Swedish fashion follows the weather

In the summer we often dress lighter and in light colours, often pastel colours but classics like black and white are always fashionable. Another craze this summer in Sweden are stripes,
especially on cut-low tops. A new thing this year is cut-low on both sides (in front and back) and tops with only one arm. The street fashion is also very big and has been going on for a couple of years now.
The weather in Sweden is varied, summers are hot and bright and winters are dark, cold and depressing. So in the winter the fashion is as dark as the days. But of course it’s not all grey, black and boring. Indeed there are other colours, actually there are much the same as in the summer but they are darker.
In the winter most people also wear long underwear because it’s so cold up here. In fact it’s really ugly and it’s not very popular but necessary in our climate.

Feet fashion

It seems like we have covered up the fashion issue about clothes but…what should you have on your feet? The trend from last year is still going on with the popular sneakers. In fact street shoes are very fashionable and never wrong. Also cowboy inspired boots are on the way to establish in Sweden. However it’s not something we think is going to be a success. Well, not all fashion is good-looking fashion.

Our thoughts

So, if we compare the three countries Sweden, Italy and England, we have found that Swedish youngsters dress similarly as the English.
We have heard that Italian teens care a lot about wearing the right labels on their clothes. Sure we also care about wearing the right label, but it’s not at all as important as it seems to be for the Italians. We believe that the Italians are label-crazy and care a lot more about the label than the clothes. (We are not that crazy.)
You can say that our capital Stockholm is "Sweden’s fashion-Mecca" because it’s there the trends start. And by the way, it takes several months for these trends to reach the north of Sweden. So when the craze reaches our town it’s kind of out in the southern Sweden. We assume that Swedish fashion is much more influenced by England than Italy. Anyway that’s just our thoughts.
Sweden is a relatively cheap country in comparison with the other countries.
The biggest chain of clothes-stores in Sweden is called Hennes & Mauritz. In this store you can find fashionable clothes to the right price. For example tops from 5-30 EUR pants from 20-40 EUR , jeans from 30-40 EUR, skirts and dresses from 10-40 EUR.
