Karate - a popular sport?
| Karate has grown a lot but lost its mystic. A lot has changed the last few years or should I say since the 80’s. Karate comes from India in the beginning. But when it came to Okinawa, Japan it has been more developed. It’s a very traditional sport there. The reason to learn karate should not be to learn to fight but to learn how to have balance between body, mind and soul.
Karate has grown a lot the last few years. The sport comes from India in the beginning. When it came to Okinawa, Japan it started to develop. The Japanese used this sport to protect themselves if they were attacked. It has now become a sport. The people who practise are not always there to learn to fight but to learn to live in balance, to have balance between body, mind and soul. The ages the people who practise karate has gotten lower every year. Right now most kids who practise the sport are 7-13 years old but everyone can do it.
Since the karate-kid movies came out in the 80’s there was a big "karate-wave" and the sport has now lost its mystic and has become a "everyday" sport. Karate is now an Olympic sport but as you know it’s not yet on the program. The reason why it’s not on the program is the many types of karate, but now they have changed the rules to be more understandable. But they think that there will still be just the people that knows the sport that will understand it.
