Abortion

Abortion is one of the simplest and safest medical procedures with a very low complication rate. Abortion is not a decision that is made easily by women. In the UK abortion is legal but not without its' strict laws. For example, an abortion can not be carried out after the 24th week of pregnancy and the woman has to have the authorisation of two doctors. There are several reasons as to why a doctor will authorise abortion and to mention a couple, if the woman has been raped or giving birth will be detrimental to the woman's health and mental stability.

As I mentioned before, abortion is not a decision that is made easily by women. For most women who have chosen to have an abortion, they have thought of all the moral implications and have looked at all the available information. In the UK, not everyone agrees with abortion and these people believe that abortion has been made too convenient, but this really is not the case. So, do you think that it is fair for women that have chosen to have an abortion, for whatever reason, should have to defend themselves against people who are anti-abortion? In some countries and a few states in America abortion is still illegal. The main problem with this, apart from taking away a basic human right, is that women have to resort to illegal backyard abortions or even self-abortions. These carry a great risk to the lives and health of the women. With legal, authorised abortions in the UK, the women have to go through counselling to help them cope and when women are forced to resort to illegal methods of abortion they miss out on this counselling.

People who are anti-abortion argue that there are better ways to deal with an unwanted child rather than abortion. One way that many protestors argue for is adoption, however adoption does not always lead to the perfect life for an unwanted child. For example, in Romania, where abortion is strictly illegal you will find many orphanages over-flowing with neglected children. In my opinion this is the best life for an unwanted child.

What is the situation with abortion in your country?
