Fire-fighters Strike

At the moment a large news story in Britain involves peoples lives being in danger. For the last few months there have been protests from the firemen and the Fire Brigades’ Union on the amount the Government is currently paying them. Personally we think they should be paid more than at present as they are committing themselves to a service which is not only dangerous, life threatening, but also needs a lot of courage. Fire fighters firstly protested for an increase in wage, 40% on what they are currently paid. This sounds like a rather large amount, but thinking of the work they carry out seems to justify it.

Think of it this way firemen or women SAVE peoples lives … what do music pop stars or actors/actresses do except earn large amounts of money and then throw it away on expensive products mainly for themselves? Anything? No nothing. We both feel very strongly on this subject and feel the Government should do something to try and stop the fire fighters from striking. If this means pay them more money, then so be it but something should definitely be done. Strikes are due to begin on Wednesday the 13th November at 6.00 p.m. but only for 48 hours, this doesn’t seem that much but it could mean a loss in life even in such a short period of time.

Another aspect of the strikes to bare in mind is the time of year we are currently facing, Bonfire night has passed but many firework displays are still being held. As we all know fireworks are dangerous, especially in the wrong hands, many cause accidents and especially fire’s. Who would be there to take control if such a thing happened?

Strike dates-

Wednesday 13th November – Friday 15th November

Friday 22nd November - Saturday 30th November

Wednesday 4th December – Thursday 12th December

Monday 16th December – Tuesday 24th December

As you can see the length of the strikes is increasing further on into December, this is to get the fire fighters point across. They won’t work until they get what they want.  Without their help where would we be?
