Argentina
A principios el musical Evita con Madonna en el
papel principal despertó mi interes sobre Argentina. Con los años mi
fascinación sobre Argentina creció con mis conocimientos de la lengua española;
por lo tanto, he decidido escribir mi artículo sobre este país sudamericano.
Argentina ocupa el segundo lugar entre los países
grandes de sudamérica. Limita al norte con Boliva y Paraguay; al este con
Brasil, Uruguay y el océano Atlántico; al sur con el océano Atlántico y Chile;
y al oeste con Chile.
La real Eva Perón o María Eva Duarte nació en 1919
y murió en 1952. De niña creció en pobreza pero en 1945 se casó con Juan Perón
un político con futuro. Ambos eran jóvenes, hermosos t tenían gran fuerza de
personalidad. Cuando Perón ganó las elecciones en 1946, Evita desempeñó un
papel político activo, particularmente con respeto a las mujeres; también la
admiraban las clases obreras por todo lo que hizo, por ejemplo estableció la
Fundación Eva Perón (una organización de asistencía social) y organizó la
sección femenina del partido Peronista. Aunque sus seguidores la querían, sus
opositores, en particular el ejército, la odiaban. Ella murió jóven de cáncer y
sus seguidores la adoraron como una diosa. Sin embargo la recordamos por su
fuerza política y por haber sido imortalizada como Evita.
Para continuar el tema de Argentina y las mujeres
con gran fuerza polítical podríamos considerar el papel de Margaret Thatcher en
la Guerra de las Malvinas en 1982; ésta fue fundamentalmente una disputa entre
Gran Bretaña y Argentina sobre la titularidad de las Malvinas. Después de la
Guerra de las Malvinas, la economía Argentina siguió siendo caótica a causa de
la deuda externa y de la inflación que permaneció muy alta; pero lo mejor fue
que la nación volvió a la democracía.
Ojalá pudiera ir allí, a pesar de los problemas
economicos que existen en este momento en Argentina, pero desgraciadamente creo
que costaría demasiado.

Argentina (translation)
Initially my interest in Argentina was stimulated
by the musical Evita with Madonna in the starring role. With the years my
fascination grew helped by my knowledge of the Spanish language. Consequently I
decided to write an article about this South American country.
Argentina is the second largest South American
country. It is bordered on the north by Bolvia and Paraguay; on the east by
Brasil, Uruguay and the Atlantic Ocean; and on the west by Chilie.
The real Eva Perón or María Eva Duarte was born in
191 and died in 1953. As a young girl she grew up in poverty but in 1945 she
married an up and coming politician called Juan Perón. They were both young,
attractive and had very strong personalities. When Perón won the elections in
1946 Evita took an active role in pokitics, particularly with regards to women,
she was also admired by the working classes for everything she did, for example
she established “La fundación de Eva Perón” (an organisation of social
benefits) and she organised the female section of the Peronist Party. Although
her followers loved her, her enemies, in particular the army hated her. She
died young of cancer and her followers worshipped her as a Goddess. However, we
remember her for her political strength and for being immortalised as Evita.
Continuing with the theme of Argentina and
politically forceful women one can consider the role of Margaret Thatcher in
the Falklands War in 1982. This was fundamentaly a dispute between Great
Britain and Argentina over the ownership of the Falklands Islands. After the
Falklands War the Argentinian economy continuded to be chaotic because of
external debt and inflation; which remained very high, the positive factor was
that the nation returned to democracy.
I wish that I could visit Argentina, despite the
economic problems that exist in Argentina at the moment, but unfortunately it
would cost too much.
