Gothenburg

We have been in Gothenburg five or six times and we love the city. It has everything. There you can find all you need from shopping to sightseeing, and Scandinavia’s biggest port to the biggest amusement park, Liseberg. Therefore we have written down some good tourist places for you, which we think you should visit if you go to Gothenburg.

Facts:
Gothenburg is at the centre of Scandinavia and is Sweden’s second largest city with 850 000 inhabitants. The port of Gothenburg is the largest in Scandinavia, over 12 000 ships visit the port and 4 million ferry passengers arrive annually.

Shopping:
Gothenburg is perfect for shopping. You can go either to the Kungsgatan or the big Avenue to find masses of shops, little boutiques, big department stores and gallerias to suit every persone’s needs and tastes, all at comfortable distance.
If you don’t want to go outside you can go to Nordstan, the biggest shopping centre in Scandinavia with 150 shops under one roof. There is not only a huge variety of shops in Nordstan but also many restaurants and cafés.

Sightseeing and boat-trips:
"Paddan" waterborne sightseeing starts in the middle of the city and follows the canals under 20 bridges out to the port. You will have a guide who will tell you very good and funny information about Gothenburg. We strongly recommend it for those who want to see Gothenburg from a different view and for those who just want to have a relaxing break in the shopping, when there is nice weather.
There are many excursion boats to small islands and also many evening cruises wen you can dance and eat and so on.
If you don’t want to go by boat you can take the guided tour with Sweden’s only cabriolet bus in Gothenburg’s city.

Universeum:
Universeum is the national science centre for the whole family. It has an aquarium hall, which is like a tunnel that you can go under; there you can see everything from small fishes to big sharks. A tropical rainforest, with all its birds, and a section where you can follow the waters way in Sweden. There are also two sections where you can go and explore the scientific world, like how your body works and how the earth and space work.

Liseberg:
We have been to Liseberg 5-6 times and every time it has been a blast, we love Liseberg with all the attractions for everyone, big or small. Liseberg is Scandinavia’s largest amusement park, which celebrates it’s 80 birthday this year. A new attraction for this year is "Balder", the biggest wooden roller coaster. It is 1 071 meter long and the ride takes 128 seconds. During that time you are exposed to negative G-crafts 10 times, the top speed is 90 km/h and the fall height is 70 degrees. An attraction that we like the most is "Kållerado", when you sit in a round boat with 8 other persons and travel down a river.
I only warn you, you can become very wet. An other attraction that every one can go to is the "Liseberg tower". There it you can go up so you are 125 meters above water level so from there you can see the whole city and of course the whole of Liseberg. For those who don’t want to go on a ride they can go to the gambling house, play the 5-camps or they can buy lotteries and play on chocolate-wheels. The Liseberg area also offers a big beautiful garden and many restaurants, cafés and shops. In the evening you can also go to the show restaurant, "Rondo" to listen to some good music and to have a meal..

Maxxima:
Maxxima is big cinema between Liseberg and Universeum. The movie screen is eight times as large as a regular movie screen and here you can also see 3D:movies. We love 3D:movies, we have been to everyone and it is really cool, because you get special glasses and it feels like you are in the movie.
