Number one in the NHL

The world's best hockey player right now is born in Sweden even in Örnsköldsvik! His name is Peter "Foppa" Forsberg and he was born on the 20th of July in 1973. As a little boy he played in MODO a team in Örnsköldsvik. He was in the Swedish Olympic team in 1994 in Lillehammer, Norway. I'm pretty sure that the "hockey world" for a long time will remember the
Peter Forsberg.

incredible penalty shot that the then young Peter Forsberg took that made the Swedish team the winner of the Olympic gold medal

Maybe you wonder how I can say that he is the number one player in the world. Well, just recently in the last game before play off the fight about the Art Ross Trophy was decided, the one who makes the most points win. The fight was between two Swedes, Markus Näslund
and Peter Forsberg, and perhaps you understand that "Foppa" was the winner. Totally he made 106 points. He has assisted 77 goals during this season and that makes him the number one in assisting too. This is The Art Ross Trophy that Foppa won.

In the autumn of 2001 Peter Forsberg shocked everyone when he in a press conference announced that he was going to take a break from hockey because of all the injuries he had suffered. Among other things a ruptured spleen and several concussions. He was gone from hockey for 6 months and obviously he knew what he was doing because when he came back just in time for play off he played well and this season, so far, has been amazing. Now the play off has started and Colorado is playing against Minnesota, best of seven games.

This season has been good for a number of other Swedes than Forsberg, one of them I've mention earlier, Markus Näslund. He is ten days younger than "Foppa", he's also born in Örnsköldsvik and he plays for Vancouver Canucks. He was the one who had made most points until the last game when he didn't do any and Peter made three. Markus took the second place two points behind. He also was the one who had made most goals, but in the finish Milan Hejduk ended up with two more goals than Markus.

Peter Forsberg has always said that when he stops playing in NHL he will come back to Sweden and play with MODO and finish his career by winning the Swedish championship. If and when that happens I think no one knows but I sure hope he comes back to MODO and then we will get a chance to see one of the best hockey players in Swedish history live.
