"The Park Bench"

Parkskolan has a school paper with varying contents. A paper that is written by the ones who have chosen the journalist alignment. These ones, ladies and gentlemen, are all girls! Many students at Parkskolan have feared that the paper would turn in to a ladies magazine, but they are so wrong!

In the social science program, you can choose between three lines: natural science, international science and journalism. Journalism is a new alignment and have been election for about three years. The students who are going in the third grade in this upper secondary school, are the ones who choose.

The students who have chosen to study journalism line have a special mission, and that is to write for the school paper "The Park Bench" (in Swedish it is called Parkbänken.) The paper are published about 2-3 times per school term and the students chose what they would like to write about. It can be about something that has happened in the school or about something in the everyday life. The students also chose themselves if they like to write the article on their own or with a friend. Before starting writing the articles, the students decide with the teachers what they are going to write about and if it’s worthy to put in the paper.

Every student who is in the second year gets, during half the autumn term, to know how a journalist works and how to plan the article. Their lessons are split in two sections: one is text communication (where they learn how to write like a journalist) and the other is page maker (a computer program where they learn how to do the layout for the article). The paper is a collection of serious subjects as well as funny ones. ‘Good and mixed’ maybe is the right expression for this paper?

How the articles ends up to be, is up to the journalists fantasy and creativity! The paper is, like the alignment, in it’s developing stage.

How the students work…

…with the computer…

… and writing.
