What Is the "filmstudio" ? The "filmstudio" has existed in Sweden for many years. In Örnsköldsvik it started in 1955. They called it "filmstudio" because they didn't only show the films, they sometimes invited some producer or someone else to talk about the film and afterward the audience had a discussion about the film. But today they only watch the films. Who Are Choosing the Films ? The number of the members this year are 167 people but there used to be 190 people. If you pay 160 sek you can see 8 films. The ages of the members are very mixed, from the ones who were there when the "filmstudio" started to teenagers. There is a committee with 6-7 people who choose all the films and if you have any suggestions and wishes you can give it to them. Those who go to the "Filmstudio" are often very film and picture interested. The films have seldom been shown at ordinary cinemas. And they vary between films from different countries. Many people who are not very interested in films often think it is strange and odd. But it is a very cheap and good alternative for those who are interested in films but also for those who don't know what to do with their spare time. Film Interest Here in Örnsköldsvik the interest in films is quite big, many youngsters like to go to the cinema or rent a video every weekend. The number would probably increase in case there existed a bigger offer of new films also in the villages that are situated outside Örnsköldsvik. Because of the big area where the youngsters are living and the problems to get a ride in to town the youths here in Örnsköldsvik just visit the cinema on average less than once a month. |
Popular Films
The most popular films here in this town are · The long kiss goodnight · Seven · Con-Air · "Jägarna" ( The Hunters ) One thing that was clear to us after an investigation at Parkskolan, was that foreign films are more popular than Swedish. Many also think that it's important that you can discuss the film afterwards. The Difference Between American and Swedish Films. We have compared the difference between American and Swedish films. We got to the conclusion that there's a big difference between the countries and their way of making and producing films. The American films are harder, much bloodier and you will notice that the American producers spend much more money on the films than they do in Sweden. That's understandable because America is a "filmcountry" and they have more money to dispose. In the American films you will see that everything is "bigger". For example in the Swedish films you can never see that a big plane crashes in a big town as you can see in the film "Con Air". The reason for that is probably that Sweden hasn't as much money to do that kinds of scenes. One thing that is typical for Swedish films is that they are realistic and often have the same actors in the films, unlike the American films which have a big offer of actors. That depends probably on the big difference between the population in the countries. Sweden is only a spot compared to America. When you read this text you may think that Sweden doesn't have any films at all that are worth seeing, but that isn't true. We have many films that are well done, have good action and good actors, so we think that many Swedish films are worth seeing. The film interest here in Örnsköldsvik is big, and we hope that it will grow and develop during the following years. We also would like, if Swedish films get more popular.
