ENDANGERED SPECIES

Do you like rhinos? I do, in fact I like all animals. But this rhino is very rare, it is the Black Rhino.

It lives in the desert area of Namibia. They are very inquisitive animals and like lying around and
being lazy, but, unfortunately, they are endangered because they have been hunted for their
horns and now there are very few left.

Inquisitive though is not all they are. When the sun rises they look for food and shade. The
young rhinos need to be protected from the sun as they feed every 45 minutes until they are 2
years old.

The time when they leave their mothers is when they are around the ages of 3 and 4 years old
because they are found by the game wardens who look after the animals, wandering around by
themselves. They are wandering around by themselves because their mothers have to look after
a new calf and mother rhinos can only look after one rhino at a time.

The mother amazingly eats 6 hours a day to produce enough milk for the calves.

These animals need to be protected otherwise they will be extinct, gone forever.
