Sports in Sweden Örnsköldsvik has a lot to offer when it comes to sports. Besides from the older sports there are some new sports which have become greater during a few years. For several centuries there have been many swedish sport athletes who has come and gone and made successes all around the world. Here in the little, nice and cosy town Örnsköldsvik there are many different sports to activate oneself with and many people in this town are interested in sports, both younger and older people. There are some sports grounds, in this town, which are bigger and more popular then the others.
it is a sport arena where you can go in for athletics, you can ski and play football. Our athletic team in Ö-vik is called Vingarna (The Wings) spend a lot of time practising there and many competitions have taken place at Skyttis. The assoceation FV (Healthy Wishes) has a ski jump in this town, where many famous ski stars have competed. New and fresh sports There are some new sports which have become very popular during just a few years. Some of them are: aerobics, step up and spinning. There are also a few sports which always have been popular, such as ice hockey, football and indoor bandy, and now these are going to get even bigger here in this town, special indoor bandy. Famous sports athletics in Sweden Sweden has many famous sports athletics. You might not heard of them all but here in Sweden they are very famous. One of them is Ludmila Enquvist, she's an athlete at one hundred meter hurdle. Ludmila gave Sweden the first gold medal since 1976 and she was the first Swede who stood at the top on an Olympic winners'stand. Ludmila is born in Russia but since two years she has become a Swedish citizen. As a twenty-three years old hockey player, Peter Forsberg has won a lot. He won the World Championship with the Swedish hockey team when he was eighteen year old. He has beaten all the records you can imagine in junior World Championship. He became the Olympic champion 1995, when he scored a very important goal which leaded to a viktory. And that famous moment is now a picture on a stamp. He was the rokie of NHL in 1995 and 1996 he won Stanley Cup with his present team Colorado Avalanche. ![]() for the Swedish international ice hockey team. Football and ice hockey school Here in Örnsköldsvik we have a school which has a profile on football and ice hockey. When you have done your nine years at the compulsory school, you chose to a particulary program. Everyone can apply on this profile but it is only a few who get selected every year. The timetable includ six hours a week practising their sport for three years. It is very popular among the pupils who are interested in sports. Sports in our school In school the most classes have sports on their timetable one hours a week, with all kind of sports. At autumn when school start we always begin with a fitness test. Then we run 2400 m. When the fitness test is over we devote the remaining sport lessons outside to athletic and location. In the winter we are indoors and have a lot of ball sports varying with body building, aerobics, and skating. During the winter a strength test have to be dune. Then you shall take maximum in bench press and it will be grading. Girls have to take 70 % of their body weight to get the highest grading and boys 120 % of their body weight. When the spring comes we are out-side again and then we have rounder and football. Aerobics Aerobics is a convex name for different training forms as Low Impact, High Impact, Funk, Step up, Body Toning and Slide. Fitness, strength and flexibility are practise to music. A training- lesson start with worming up witch will be followed by fitness training. That part is based on a number of ground steps witch compounds to typical aerobics steps like "Step Touch" and "Grapevine", after that you relaxing and train body building. The training lesson ends with stretch.
Aerobics is also an official competition sport and the first competition in Sweden was 1986. In a investigation among young people in Sweden 52 % exercise every week from one to six times a week.
