Communication between different social groups in Bulgaria

Humans are social creatures and communication is vitally important part of their everyday life. In order to draw fully and accurately the picture of the various ways of communication between the people living in Bulgaria, we have divided them in several groups: children, teenagers, people of middle age and elderly people.

To begin with, communication between children is possible only within the boundaries of the neighbourhood. Usually small children have friends from the house or block of flats nearby. They gather and communicate by different games and often boys and girls play separately.

Another place where kids communicate is Internet and game clubs. But there is not any natural interaction between them in these places because they communicate only virtually and they do not even talk to each other. As a matter of fact, today the lack of communication is caused by this replacing of the real contact between people starting from very small age.

As far as young people are concerned, their communication and entertainment are rather different.

Firstly, teenagers communicate mostly in school. There they meet with their classmates and students from the whole school. They talk about their worries connected with the education or their private lives. But as to the entertainment, they cannot enjoy entirely because of the fact that they go there to enrich their knowledge.

Places where youngsters can communicate and have fun freely are cafes, bars, discos and night clubs. On the one hand there they can meet with a lot of their friends and acquaintances, while on the other they get known to new people and gain new friendships. So teenagers talk about their triumphs and troubles and share confidences. These places are the best places for young people to express their personalities and have fun the way they prefer.

Last but not least, young people get together and communicate in different gardens and parks, which is widely spread in Bulgaria because of the no-money entertainment. These are places for meetings and spending the time before going to a disco or a club. Again conversations refer to different aspects of their lives.

People above the age of 24 have slightly different ways of entertainment. This is due to a number of reasons. In the first place, people of middle age are working and have free time in the weekend only. Secondly, people of this social group get married and usually have children so that they have to look after them and be more responsibe. These facts difine the difference in having fun during their spare time.

Thus, people of low condition have fewer friends and see the rarely. They usually meet at weekends and spend their time together at home- eating and drinking alcohol. By contrast people of high financial position meet their friends in restaurants. But for all people of middle age are tipical conversations on topics like politics, money, their families etc.

According to elderly people, in general they do not have much to do after they have already retired. For some of them this is the most depressing period of life because of the feeling of being useless to society. But for others this is the time when they can take a rest, think over their lives and take up new activities.

Week days and weekends do not differ much for the old people because they have enough spare time, which they spend in different ways. For example, women stay at home when it is cold. They are used to cooking, weaving or cleaning the house. When the weather is good, elderly ladies enjoy going out with their grandchildren or walking in the park where all people of the third age meet with their old friends and talk about family and health problems or share memories.

Elderly men usually gather in clubs, which are often divided to the different political views of their members. There grandfathers play card and chess, drink beer and talk about politics. The atmosphere is very warm and friendly because visitors know each other for years and often have strong relationships.

In conclusion, in spite of the financial difficulties and the social differences in Bulgaria, people of all age manage to get together, communicate, have fun in their own way and enrich their lives enormously by the presence of the others around them. Back to frontpage
