Hip-hop is an originally American cultural movement which is composed of four main
parts: break dancing and graffiti art, along with two more well known aspects
collectively known as hip hop music; they are rapping (emceeing) and DJing.

Rap originated in the mid-1970s in the South Bronx area of New York City. The
rise of rap in many ways parallels the birth of rock'n roll in the 1950s. Both
originated within the African American community and both were initially recorded
by small, independent record labels and marketed almost exclusively to a black
audience. In both cases, the new style gradually attracted white musicians, a few
of whom began performing it. For rock'n roll it was a white American from
Mississippi, Elvis Presley, who broke into the billboard magazine popular music
charts. For rap it was a white group from New York, the Beastie Boys. The release
of their albums was one of the first two rap records to reach the billboard top-ten
list of popular hits. The other significant early rap recording to reach the top-ten,
"Walk This Way" (1986), was a collaboration of the black rap group Run-DMC and the
white hard-rock band Aerosmith. Soon after 1986, the use of the samples and declaimed
vocal styles became widespread in popular music of both black and white performers,
significantly altering previous notions of what constitutes a legitimate song,
composition or musical instrument.

As rap music is comparatively new style it has more fans among the young people.
Usually this people are boys as they find the rhythm and the lyrics closer to their
nature. In our school we even have some groups of boys who sing rap music and they
cope with it very well.

Teenagers listen to this style of music in the disco, because DJs play it very often,
as it is appropriate for dancing and feet well to the atmosphere there. Another place
where this music is played is at home during parties. In almost all cafes you can here
it as well. Some teens even go to certain cafes because of the music played.

In all video clips the rappers wear loose trousers, T-shirts, caps, trainers, and
sunglasses. This is in fact how people who like listening to this style dress themselves
because they want to be like their idols as much as possible.

In almost all lyrics the main themes the rappers sing about are money, power, sex, drugs,
expensive cars, chicks and guns. They represent the street life and all advantages and
disadvantages about that. What language can you expect? Jargon of course, that is why a
big part of the lyrics is censured on the TV. Almost all fans now use this slang and this
creates big problems to them.
