VEIL
A Religious Freedom or Female Oppression
Whether veil, barkha, niqab and other dresses the Muslim
women wear, is oppression for religious freedom
or female oppression can be discussed.
Many Muslim women tell that they wear the veil
of their own will. I’m sure that it’s true at times,
but I don’t believe that young children think it’s
funny to put on a veil. Especially not when they
live in Sweden or other countries where it’s not
very common whit veils among the population.
I don’t think that children should have a religion
at all. I’m afraid they just being indoctrinated by their parents.
It’s also very important that school
BILD SAKNAS!
This is a Muslim woman in a niqab.
doesn’t give propaganda for any religion.
Sometimes when I talk to people, they tell me they
think that the immigrants should leave their custom,
veil, language etc, behind when they come to Sweden. I think that’s
so wrong. If I moved from Sweden, I’d like to keep my things I
had here. Let them wear their veils!
On the other hand, to wear a veil is an old tradition. The veil was
a proof that those women belong to men. So, to wear a veil means that
you’re less important. The veil is one of the worlds foremost
symbols for oppression of women. I don’t think that’s something
we should give our support.
Something I wonder about is why Muslim women wear veil. I asked a Muslim
girl, but she didn’t answer my question. She just kept telling
me that she put it on of her own will. She told me she wasn’t
subjected to oppression.
Then I asked her why the Muslim women don’t want to show their
hair, but she didn’t answer that question either. My interview
with this girl didn’t give me anything. She talked about everything,
except giving answers to my questions. I don’t know why she acted
like that; maybe she wasn’t comfortable with the situation. I
suppose I talked with the wrong person.
After all, I don’t think the veil is an expression for female
oppression. But I think we should have an age limit for wearing a veil.
