Organ donation
Have you ever thought about how it would be to live forever? Well as you might now, you can’t.
Sooner or later we all are going to die, that’s a fact. Are you (like many others) a believer that the soul
leaves the body when you die, and that the body stays here on planet earth. What can you do when you are gone,
to make life better for the rest of us?
Who can be a donator?
Everyone can be a donator, it doesn’t matter how old you are, the only thing that matters is that you are healthy and dead. And when are you dead then? Well, that’s simple, when the brain is dead. And that is when no blood is pumped up to your brain. Then you are really dead. When you donate organs from dead people you have to be quick, if the organ doesn’t have any oxygen it cant be donated. But, (there is always a but) if you cool the organ down to 4*C it can be saved for days, and then they can transport the organ to the patient without any hurry. You can also donate one kidney or just a piece of it , when you are alive. You have two kidneys. And you can live
with only one kidney.
Tissue doesn’t need to be oxygenated, so it can be saved for a long time. A corneas can be saved in nutrient
solution for up to four weeks.
Inflammations!
After a transplantation, the body can push the organ away, if its turns out to be a inflammation there.
And as you might understand, that’s not a good thing. But there is a way to prevent the reaction. Drugs called cortisone,
simulect and azatioprin are just three of them. Those drugs stops the reaction, but the body can get used to them,
and then you have to take more and more, and hopefully the inflammation just pass, and be alright.
The risk for this reaction is biggest in the beginning, after the operation, but the risk will always be there for the
rest of that persons life. How can they than find the inflammation in time? Well they just make some tests
(doctors like tests), of the person’s organ, and then they know if it’s an inflammation there.
Priority Principles !
When it comes to organ donation, it’s really difficult to get an organ first and then it has to fit the person too.
Those who need an organ, has to be put on "hold", in a line. And that could take time, it can be more than ten in front
of you, and then it could be too late when it’s your turn. It doesn’t matter how old you are, or how rich you are.
But how big chance you have to survive sometimes matters. There can be a person in front of you,
and he/she gets a transplant, and then after just a week this person dies. Then it can be the opposite too,
the person who is behind you dies before he/she gets a transplant in time.
The religions thoughts!
Some religions are against organ donation, and some are for it. Most of them are really for it, like Protestantism,
Christendom, Islam, Judaism and Buddhism. They think its up to what you want, its your decision. And if you do it,
you are only doing the right thing.
One religion that is against it, is Shinto, which thinks that the dead body is dangerous and unclean, and also that
if you remove the dead person’s organ, it would destroy the relationship between the deceased and the family.
Islam thinks that if you don’t help those who need it, you’ll get punished. This is what God wrote in the Koran:
"they put others needs first in front of their own", if the living peoples can donate, deceased can do more. But they
still think donation should be something of your own choice.
Christians have about the same opinion as Islam. It’s written in the Bible a very important sentence: "what you
want people to do for you, you shall do for them". Then you can guess their opinion by your self.
Judaism have two principles called Kibud Hamet and Pikuach Nefesh.
Kibud Hamet , stands for reverence and respect for the dead and the dead body.
That means that you cant take anything from the deceased, and destroy the respect for the dead one.
It’s really important for the Jewish people to be buried hole.
Pikuach Nefesh, stands for the duty to further life and the respect for life’s sanctity.
That means that you should help everyone, and give other persons a chance to live longer.
Guess who’s is the most important principle, it’s Pikuach Nefesh.
Pigs!
What can you do?This is a BIG decision to make, but you can save lives. Just think about it, you are saving an other persons life
when you are dead. You are bringing joy when you die, in the middle of the sadness. Isn’t that a really beautiful thing
to do? Choose your position, YES or NO.
