Delusions Of Grandeur

When people think of music their ideas turn to that of pop music and ‘the charts’. However, this is not where the true origin of music lies. The heart of music is in the bands that begin at an early age, often in school. One such band is ‘Delusions of Grandeur’ that were formed only 18 months ago and consists of 5 members.

The band’s lead guitarist is Peter Connor (‘Connie’ to his friends). Connie has been playing guitar since he was 8 and is now playing at a very high standard. His main influences are Buddy Guy, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix.  From these great men he derives his blues influences but he gets his hard rocking edge from rock gods such as Slash and Angus Young. He can rock out with the best of them too. He plays a Torino Red Fender Stratocaster and is the proud owner of a Marshall Mode 4 half stack.

Matt Hornby is the band’s pianist and rhythm guitarist. Matt has been playing Piano since he was 4 and is currently Grade 7. Matt is a very accomplished pianist but also the rhythm guitar on most songs, giving ‘Connie’ something to return to when he finishes his solos.

The band’s bassist and backing vocalist is Tom Selby. Tom is a ‘bass guitar master’ and is also responsible for writing a number of the band’s songs with their drummer. Tom also supports the main vocalist in a number of songs adding a certain edge to each performance.

Alex Walker plays drums for the band. Alex has been playing drums since he was 12 and by all accounts is a very accomplished player. He maintains a strong rhythm at the heart of the band but can also solo and fill around the beat of the band. His main drumming influences are John Bohnam, Dave Grohl and Keith Moon.

The final and most recent addition to the band is the main vocalist Kat Hannibal. She is a very talented singer who has a lovely voice and a wide variety of vocal talent.

Delusions of Grandeur play a mix of old school hard rock with the ear shattering volumes of dual Marshall stacks and mellow, but still cool alternative rock. The band’s main influences are Gun's n Roses, Led Zeppelin, the Jimmy Hendrix Experience and AC/DC among others. Over the past month the band have been working on a number of songs that they are hoping to record early next year.

In the future the band will be performing at a number of venues around the Cheshire area. These include Whitchurch Civic Hall and a club in a near by town to name but a couple. The band are also looking to increase their fan base and hopefully perform in more venues and to do a worldwide tour (but that is only a dream).
