A wake up call

“A young boy shot while following a demonstration by a radical
group. Died on the way to hospital...“ Yes, almost every day in
the newspapers, the TV news or on the radio, you can hear about
the victims of terrorism, but is this really a fact that we should
accept?

Terrorism has been with us for centuries, and it has always attracted
inordinate attention because of its dramatic character and its sudden,
often completely unexpected, occurrence. It has been a tragedy for
the victims, but seen in historical perspective it seldom has been more
than a nuisance. Some people say that religion seems to stand over
peoples life or death and that if politicans cared more about every
unique person´s right to a life of his own then, for example, Saddam
Hussein´s regime wouldn´t have lasted for 35 years. But when are
people going to take responsability for their actions? The fact that we
often have a very hard time to understand things we can not really
associate to doesn´t make it easier. When we hear about a mother and
her four children getting killed by armed forces just because they
happened to be on the wrong spot at the wrong time we easily just
say “oh, that´s terrible“ and then take it for “just another piece of
awful news from far away“. Of course we can not get engaged in
every single catastrophe that happens around the world, but people
are going to have to take action in the questions about human rights.
Nobody should accept the fact that civilian people are getting killed
every day because of a war their leader are fighting.

The work of terror
412 men, women, and children were hacked to death by terrorists on
the night of December 29, 1997. There were 328 victims when an Air
India aircraft was exploded by Sikh terrorists in 1985. 240 U.S.
marines lost their lives when their barracks were attacked by suicide
bombers in Beirut in 1983, and in the Israeli – palestine conflict and
since September 11 terrorists have been doing one attack after
another. When is all this going to end? Is it ever going to? If people
won´t cooperate with each other soon, the solution of their problem
will just slide a bit further away. Many people probably think that one
little person won´t make a difference but if we all could try to find a
resonable common solution it might work. Of course peace wouldn´t
occur over night but a long time cooperation for peace I sure think
would make a huge difference. People have to talk to each other
instead of acting in anger if this ever is going to end.
