Piracy – An upswing for the culture

The Swedish people have realised that they have paid excessive prices for music and movies during the last five years. This has caused the downloading of music and movies to increase dramatically during the last years, people don't see downloading as theft, which is right, because the person you download from has still got the file, it is just a form of copying. The government has presented a legislation proposal that will make downloading illegal and thereby a huge part of the population criminals, if it is accepted. This law is suggested to gain legal force at the start of the third quarter this year.

There are two types of piracy. The type that private persons usually utilise is downloading for personal use, this is defensible because it's just for personal usage. The other one is when you download movies and music that you sell in order to make money. The sense of justice for many Swedes is that the first one is reasonable, while the other damages the originator.
Piracy supports movies and music that don't have a broad audience, it gives more people a chance to watch the wonderful acts and listen to the magnificent tones that otherwise only a few would be able to experience. This means that people can participate in the growing range of culture and also be able to broaden their knowledge within each sphere. Most politicians only want to believe in the bigwigs that sit on their exquisite leather chairs in a grandiose office located at Södermalm. Nevertheless have the green party, the centre party and the young communists dared to take the The childrens corner in a library, could books possibly be dangerous?
fight against those who want to criminalize large amounts of the Swedes. Göran “the swelldonut” Persson must understand that it's not smart to criminalize all this people if he wants to keep the power in the country.

Right now there is a power struggle between the people and the private organization Antipiratbyrån. They arrange searches against companies and report citizens that download (they act like a real police force) despite deficient evidence.
It also seems like they have a close cooperation with the police (despite the fact hat the police isn't allowed to cooperate with private organisations). Antipiratbyrån operates an automatic search system against bootleggers.
This system is in conflict with PUL (A Swedish law about how personal information should be handled), they have also paid a person to infiltrate FTP-servers at Bahnhof. This person has bought both server hardware and uploaded large amounts of copyright protected material that he later reported back to Antipiratbyrån. Piratbyrån and Antipiratbyrån recently took part in a debate broadcasted by SVT, many people think that Piratbyrån won the debate. Various parties has invited both Piratbyrån and Antipiratbyrån to give their opinion about bootlegging. Most parties have decided to support Antipiratbyrån.

Recently the Antipiratbyrån's website got hacked by AUH (Angry Young Hackers). At the website you can read different mails that expose illegal actions on behalf of Antipiratbyrån and also personal information about one of the bad guys who work at Antipiratbyrån. Each minute the hatred for Antipiratbyrån is increasing. You can read about that at Piratbyråns website. The word 'Antipiratbyrå' has become a synonym to 'intrusion against personal integrity'
