Intention and definition
To be athletic is very important. It makes you feel good.
To be active in sports make you stronger both physically and psychologically,
you are in good shape, you get a healthier body and you can meet new friends too.
What does it mean to be athletic?
You take part in physical exercises with some kind of physical activity to get a better physical condition and health.
But what is a physical condition? Physical condition is a description of how good your body can transport
oxygen to the cells in your body. You can get a good physical condition by regular exercise.

People are lazy
f this is correct why do not everybody go in for sports regularly?
The answer is simple. People are too lazy!
To be lazy is very common for youths, and it is because of that a lot of people do not exercise.
A lot of people think it is so strenuous to exercise so they choose to watch TV or play computergames instead.

Too little physical education in school and responsibility at home
Not even the school helps children to exercise.
In Europe, Sweden is one of the countries which has the fewest physical educationlessons in school.
In an examination at 3500 schools in Sweden, more than 90% of the students had fewer than two lessons a week.
It is not good, because many children only exercise at school, they do not get any exercise at home.
When the children are young, the parents have to take an active interest in their sports.
They can watch them, give them a lift to the training, talk about it and so on.
They could also have some rules at home.
For example, how many hours their children are allowed to watch TV and play computergames every day.
Maybe the children then understand how important this is.
Because when their youths get older it is harder to influence them.
Then they usually do the opposite just to protest.

Most people do not care
n all cities there are many different sports and exercises to pick from.
But there are a lot of young people who do not care.
No one is expecting all of them to become elite sportsmen and train hard seven days a week.
All they have to do is to walk a couple of kilometres two times every week for the body to feel well.
But as I said earlier, most young people do not care. They are too lazy.

Coaches for the youths have a hard but very important task
t is also very hard to be a coach for the youths.
As a coach you first have to earn respect from the team.
Then you have to teach them to respect other people and give them motivation and not too high goals.
It is very easy that one of those tasks fails, and then the youths might quit as a protest.
That sounds really stupid but it is not unusual among young people.
This could depend on the fact that young people do not know who they really are yet,
and that they are going through some big changes in their lives.
Therefore it might seem like many young people are lazy, although they might just be insecure about
themselves and how they are supposed to act in different situations.
Do not misunderstand me now. It is just one part that has quit practising sports completely.
There are many youths who are very lazy. But the majority is still practising some kind of sport.
That is positive. But this part is getting smaller and smaller, and I think that it is time to start worrying.
In today’s society you have to keep in shape. You do not get anything for free.
In the past people got all the exercise they needed from their work.
Nowadays the majority sits still all day, and if they need to move 600m they take the car;
even when it is just as easy and fast to walk or take the bicycle.
So exercise more. It is good for your body and soul.
