Hockey Culture
Many people know who Peter Forsberg is but maybe they don’t know that he is from Örnsköldsvik's hockey school Modo. It is not only Forsberg playing in the NHL from Modo, but also Markus Näslund, Henrik and Daniel Sedin and many more.

They are many diffrent cultures in Örnsköldsvik but the hockey is probably the most important to many people in Örnsköldsvik and possibly one of the biggest. At the end of the 1970's Modo players began go to the NHL and the first Modo player was Anders Hedberg. After him Modo Hockey has had 20 players during the years who have stated to play in the NHL, and now there are 13 active players.
At the end of the 1970's Djurgården had exported more than 30 players to the NHL, but Djurgården is a team for a much bigger town in Sweden than Modo and Örnsköldsvik. Modo has only exported about 20 players but how can they be so many when we are few people here? Maybe it is the team and the trainers who make it easy to be a pro in the NHL when you have played in Modo Hockey.
And maybe the hockey in Örnsköldsvik becomes even bigger with a new arena, and that can be one of the reasons why they are building a new one. The new arena will be at the center of the town and possibly an advantage for many people. The whole arena building is going to cost 170 million kronor, but Örnsköldsvik's NHL pro Peter Forsberg has decided to help with the economic part of the project.
The arena will be owned by Modo Hockey and Forsberg’s company Forspro AB. The arena will have seats for about 6500 spectators. This project also brings other culture events for those who maybe don’t like hockey. The arena going to have dance shows, trade fair and much more.
