Gay Rights!
Did you know that every year there is a parade
in Stockholm which is called the Gay Pride
when homosexual people honour their sexuality?
Did you know that Finland is the only Nordic country that has not the
law of the partner ship?
Homosexuality in the Nordic countries
In 1995 it become possible for two people from the same sex to register
their partner ship in Sweden. But that doesn’t mean thattwo people
of the same sex can be married. No priest would not do it either. Until
1979 the doctor’s believed that homosexuality was a mental illness.
Sweden has come a big step on the way when it comes to homosexuality.
But in Denmark they could register their partner ship already in 1989.
In Norway it became possible to register two people of the same sex
in 1993.
In 1996 they could even register in Iceland. In the North it’s
Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Iceland that have introduced the law of
the partner ship but Finland hasn´t.
Gay pride
In the gay pride they show openly that they are gay. But it’s
not only homosexual people that are there. There are a lot of tourists
too from Sweden and other countries who visit the parade. The parade
is in Stockholm and has been ever since 1998. It begins 31 July and
lasts until 6 August. The parade is very popular and there are performances
by artists and there are cafées and restaurants.
