Floorball World Championship

At the end of the sixties some students from Sweden began to play what they called ”landhockey” just for fun and I belive that they never had a thought that the sport would become one of the world's fastest growing sports for younger people. Nowadays retired people and other people meet and play it for fun.

The International Floorball Federation was founded in Huskvarna, Sweden, by the floorball
associaions of Finland, Sweden and Switzerland. The president of the federation is from Sweden and his name is Tomas Eriksson. Today there are over 37member associations and 3700 different clubs. 249000 registered players and of them 131425 registered players are in Sweden.

It's Sweden's largest indoor sport and it's growing very fast. One reason is that Sweden has the best team of all, they have won the men's floorball world championship all times, and the women has won medal every time. The first U-19 championship was played in 2001 and Sweden won that one too. The championship is played every year, in even years for men and U19 women and in odd years for women and U19 men. Another reason is that it's a very cheap sport

A floorballmatch between powerhouses Sweden
( yellow) and Finland (white)
because you only need a stick and a pair of shoes. Compared to hockey it's 3 times cheaper.
