Henning Mankell

Henning Mankell is a famous author from Sweden.
His books
has been translated into many languages.
Mankell does not only write about Sweden, he also
writes about Africa in many of his books.

Henning Mankell´s books are the most read books in Sweden. Mankell is one of Sweden´s most selling authors around the world. He is famous in big parts of the world.

In 1973 he wrote his first novel ”Bergsprängaren”. His first criminal novel was published 1991 and that was “Mördare utan ansikte”. It was then the famous series about the police in Ystad, Kurt Wallander, started. Henning Mankell´s fame started with the books about Wallander. Some of those books have also been filmed.

There are four places that means much for Henning Mankell:
1.Sveg, where he grew up.
2.Gryts skärdgård, where he spent his summers.
3.The Greek Island Thassos, where he was when he was young.
4.Mocambique, where he lives and works.
The places give him inspiration and he writes about them in his books.

In many of his books his love for Africa shines more than his love for Sweden.
In Henning Mankell´s eyes the African attitude on life is superior to the European.

His books are translated into 36 languages, among others English, French, Spanish,
German, Norwegian, Danish, Italian and many more.

Henning Mankell has got awards like:
Astrid Lindgren award 1996
Deutscher Jugendliteraturpreis 1993
Nils Holgersson award 1990
He was nominated to the August award 1996
