A few years ago Parkskolan
in Örnsköldsvik started “Operation syskonskola”.
“Operation syskonskola” is a way to collect money
through charity.
Parskolan collected 40 000 SKr in 1999, to build and start
a school for men in Muvezi, Kwe Kwe, Zimbabwe.
The project has come so far that the school only misses a
few things like; windows, desks and other school items.
Muvezi
In Autumn 2005, class 2 in the Social Science Programme (internationalisation)
started a new “Operation syskonskola” to collect
some money for the things that are missing, so we can open
the school.
The good thing to start a school for men is that they stay
home with their families and more of them get better education
and a good jobs.
By starting this school the spread of AIDS decreases because
men don´t move around searching for jobs.
The fundraising hasn´t started yet because the class
hasn´t got a date from our principal.
The thought is that we will get a day off school to work at
home or at a company to earn at least 100 SKr each, which
we then give to the school.
Muvezi school is for the moment a school for
furniture manufacturers. The school is well-known in the whole
of Zimbabwe, and that´s because there are no other furniture-stores
in the country.
The most sold product is coffins, because of the big bereavements
in AIDS.
Enos Siguake is a school director in Kwe Kwe
and he has done a study trip for three weeks to Örnsköldsvik
and Parkskolan. Enos met a teacher, Stellan Bäcklund
who works with co-ordination of all “syskonskoleprojects”.
It was like this the whole project started.
The Country
The city of Kwe Kwe is positioned in the country´s centre,
between the big cities Harare and Bulawayo.
Kwe Kwe has a very agreeable climate, for example in the summer
the temperature is around
23,5 C and in the winter is about 29 C.
