VALUE SYSTEM OF A TEENAGER

Teachers and parents talk very often about what the young generation’s value system should be. They often blame us that having designer fashion clothes, expensive cell phones and attractive hairstyle is the most important thing for us. They state that clothes are only the shell and the actual core lies beneath. All these grumblings made me feel drowsy, so I did not use to pay attention to them.
It was just a story that turned my mind upside down. Now I understand what my teachers and parents mean telling that.

The story was about a teenager of a good family whom had been promised a car to be given as a present for graduating the high school. Accompanied by his father, the boy spent a lot of time going round the shops in an attempt to find the perfect car. He was urgent to have it on the eve of his prom.
But in the appointed evening his father gave him just a Bible wrapped carefully. The boy got so furious that he threw it and left his home forever.

Years later, when his father died, the boy came back home and found the old Bible. The payment check of the promised car was inside…
Reading this story I realized that I was a victim to the possessions too, just like my classmates. We all had been living in a great delusion while the time was passing by. I was staying and thinking about how many great moments I had missed and about the interesting people I even had not noticed and this made me sad. I was aware that the most valuable things are invisible. Nothing wrong with having fashionable shoes, a fancy car or a beautiful house. They can make you feel free and delighted.
But I already know that the most natural way of happiness is love. Love is the foundation of my value system. It is something that can and must be learn - as much love you have in your life as much rich and free you are. The rest are persistence and kindness.
