Don´t pay for your own school lunch
Here in Sweden we are lucky to get our own school lunch for free. The free school lunch
is paid through food taxes.
-Swedish students would be more overweight if we didn´t have free lunch at school. Says Annelie Westin. Annelie is in chargeof the school canteen at a school in Örnsköldsvik, called ”Parkskolan”. She has worked there for over three years now but she has worked in the food business for 10 years.

They are seven people that work in the
school´s dinning-hall and there are around
1 200 students who eat lunch there everyday.
They are making lunches for about 1 000
students and it´s just students from the
school that are eating there.

- One lunch costs about 12 swedish kronor
(it´s about 1, 2 euro), some lunches cost more
and some less but it evens out in the end, says
Annelie.

There are a lot of people that are in involved with deciding and prepering the food schedule. All of the recipes have to be nourishment.

Every lunch has to contain three categories of food and that is, vegetables, meet/ chiken/ or fish and pasta/ potatoes/ or rise. The students must have access to all of that everyday and they have that. If the students dose not like the meal that´s being served, they always can just take a glass of milk and a plate with vegetables and that´s enough nourishment. They always serve three different salads, pizza salad, green salad and carrots.

I think that it would look the same in the school´s dinning-hall even if it wasen´t free except it would be more students that wouldn´t eat and more overweight among the younger students, says Annelie.

She also know that we get more strenght and energy from healthier food so we can work harder and better at the lessions. I think more
countries should introduce free lunches, above all in the developing countries. Beacuse there it maybe will be their only meal for the day, says Annelie.
