We don’t read! Why?

What do you do in your free time? This is the question I asked to 20 of my friends, 10 female and 10 male. They had to order some activities that are usually done in their

free time.

These are the answers in order of preference.

As you can see "reading" is at the last position of the chart. But why?

A lot of people say they don’t have time to read. However they are convinced that sooner or later they will find the opportunity to do it. There are a lot of people who don’t

usually read but they would like to.

Somebody is proud to say: "I have never read a book in all my life". Fortunately this is a rare case.

At least we are obliged to read what our teachers impose us.

Do we really need time to read? What our generation misses is the good will.

If we have time to go out with our friends, to play videogames or to practice sports we can find an hour for a book.

Reading is very important. Medical researches show we should read a lot to keep our brain trained. If we don’t read, we can’t write in a correct way.

Internet could become the cure, even though it has caused the problem

Surfing on the web we can find a lot of web-sites for aspirant writers, with laboratories of creative writing. There are communities where "grapho-maniacs" of all ages can

exchange their opinions or poems.

If you want to join one of these groups, you don’t need any particular writing style, all techniques are well accepted. You can even learn a lot of things, maybe copying at

the beginning and at least you will acquire your own style.

Publishers don’t help readers: the price of the culture is too high, for books as well as for CDs.

The new technologies have created the eBook. "eBook" is the abbreviation of electronic book. It is a new kind of text, transformed in digital format by informatics

resources.

At the moment the mean the most used to read eBooks is the PC. However you can use other technological

supports as the E-BOOK or the Pocket PC.

There are a lot of advantages from this new kind of book.

The price is very low despite the paper book, and there are a lot of sites that allow free

downloading.

Reading is more fluent

It permits the research and the consultation by key word, that is not easy in classic

books.

EBooks aren’t only classics. In fact more often writers decide to publish the preview

on  the Web, instead in bookshops.

Honestly I prefer the rBook, the real one. But if the price of culture don’t fall, I’ll change my idea.
