My holidays
| During the Christmas holidays I usually spend
a lot of time with my family and friends. This is the perfect moment to socialize with people and strengthen relations. On Christmas Eve, after a family diner with my parents, I meet my friends. During this night everybody sings carols and visits friends and relatives. Thats exactly what we do. We go from house to house (our houses) singing Christmas carols. After that we stop at each ones house to have a drink, eat traditional meals, to chat and have fun. During the night we have the opportunity to know each other better, to solve conflicts and become even better friends. And if it snows then the atmosphere is magical and we all feel different . |
We feel like floating trough the air like the little snow flecks. It seems like there are no problems in this world and everything its perfect. There is nothing that can spoil this
night (oh, except too much drinking or eating). The next day, after sleeping for hours, we may get together at some ones place to continue what we started the night
before. The fun continues for 3 days.
| On the New Years Eve people, especially
children, go from house to house and make greetings for a prosper year, for abundance and affluence .They say that if you dont receive anyone to wish you a good year then you will have a bad one. According to the tradition the first one to enter into your house to wish happy new year, must be a boy, otherwise it brings bad luck. This tradition, alongside with the Christmas ones, are very well preserved in our culture. After the fall of the night, everybody goes to a party, even I do. This year, together with my friends, I went to a party. We had a lot of fun. At midnight we saw the fireworks, drank champagne and wished each other a happy new year. |

After that the party carried on until morning. The next day there was an after party of course, that had been even better then the previous one. During this period we usually
eat a lot of traditional meals, drink a lot of wine and traditional Romanian vodka (well, only who has the stomach for it).

The holidays end on 8th January with St. John
when everybody named John or Johanna is celebrated and may receive gifts and greetings. On this occasion family dinner parties are organized where participate relatives and closed friends. Weeks like this help us to relax, have fun and become better persons. This is not true for me. Even if I should be fresh and relaxed after the holidays, I am always tired and willing to go on vacation. But at least I had a good time. written by : Roxana Oanta ( free3@itcgbianchi.it ) |
