The Museum – a forgotten activity

The visitors fail the Museum of Örnsköldsvik, in spite of new opening hours and well educated staff.
- We can see a difference if we compare with the last ten years, but the offer can utilize it more, says Ulf Edberg, an employee at the museum.

It was 28 years ago since the Museum opened. Everything between Universal culture and contemporary art is accessible to the public.
- We can see a pattern, and it is that our visitors mostly are interested in problem art and cultural history The Museum staking to be a museum where the general public, in the future, can meet each other and think.
They also want it to be a place there taste and opinions can develop.

Expensive air freights
The Museum of Örnsköldsvik is situated in the centre of town, but in spite of that the visitors can see other things instead of the district history. The thought is that they will get the possibility to see the complete global culture. Although the staff has many plans it is almost impossible to implement them in reality. It´s because the expensive air freights and the susceptible art.
- We have to plan for the future as long as the economy influence our activity. It´s very sad that we can´t do the things that we want to, admit Edberg.

Art from England
The museum has tried to get art from other countries before, but it´s something that doesn´t happen so often. An earlier cooperation with England resulted in terrible costs for the musuem. Even then it was the expensive freights that stopped there art exhibition.
- We try to get some money for possible coperation with other cultures in the future. We want to show more global things in our art exhibitions. I can reveal that we right now work with a project in Los Angeles, but it´s to early too tell something about it. But I look forward to it, says an expectant Ulf Edberg.
The way to get there is long. They are first going to work on their tradition from 1970s – trying to get the visitors to feel more comfortable and welcome to the Museum.
- We want to be a kind house, and the people shouldn´t be afraid to visit us. We want to create a deeper relationship with our visitors. Then we think they'll get more information out of it.

Cooperation

The activity with exhibitions at the Museum works very well. A coperation with other companies in the municipality has made it possible to spread the art.

- I think it´s good, because handicapped persons and pensioners should take part of the culture just as everyone else, instead of entering the centre of the town, finishes Edberg.
