How to become our planet's best friend

Are you friendly to the environment when you go shopping? Maybe you haven't thought about it, but what you buy affects the earth in many ways. If the things you buy have been brought to the store from some country far away it's bad for the environment.

The carbon dioxide spurts out of the lorry and that gas makes the global warming increase. Now you know and it's time to start counteracting. I'm going to give you some advice to make your shopping trip more friendly to the earth we're living on.

Instead of taking a plastic bag to have your household articles in, it's better to take a paper bag. Or if you're really taking it seriously you can knit a bag, of course of fabric that's been manufactured in your home country.

Take the bus to the store, because taking the car to a shop that's only a few kilometers away from your home is unnecessery. If you're a real daredevil you can try to walk, at first it's hard but you'll get used to it. If it's possible you can drink water from the water tap instead of buying water in a bottle, because the bottle has been travelling a long way to get to you, which is not good for the environment.

Only buy things that you really really need to have. You'll probably not need that thousandth extra shirt, give money to charity instead.

If your thinking about throwing away a pair of shoes, think again. Give these boots to your cousin or recycle them at home. The shoelaces tied together can make a nice belt and the rubber sole is perfect for carving out curlicues to put on your desk at work.

I know what you're thinking: Is it really this simple? Yes! To start with at least. Start with these five things and then when you get used to the small changes in your life you can start adding more things to the list. Before you know it maybe you and nature will even be lovers.
