Cows

Do they make the world bad?

Vegans, are people who don't eat or drink anything that came from an animal. If everyone should be a vegan no one would eat meat or drink milk. If that should happen the cows would be wasted and almost every farmer would need a new job.
The advantage if cows would disappear is that it would become smaller wastes of methane. A cow releases out approximately 100-130 kilos of methane. How is that possible? Well, the cows chew . The food consists of different kind of grass and hay is very indigestible and needs a special digestion machine, in other words four stomachs with different functions. After each stomach the food comes back up in the mouth, is chewed again and sent further. It is during this digestive process the cows release methane, 95% by burps and 5% by farts. The most common gases in agriculture are methane, carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide. A cow emits as much greenhouse gases as three normal motorists make every year. Before a calf has become a dairy cow, it has already relesed 100 kilos of methane. Although perhaps cows milk less when they get old, what different does that make if we canīt stop climate change? If an animal is removed from nature it threatens to make it worse, because the ecosystem changes.

The greenhouse effect!

Erik Arrhenious was a scientist who lived in the end of the 1800s. He predicted the greenhouse effect, but no one listened to him. Now, about 200 years later, most people know what it is all about.
There are researchers who claim that if we don't try to stop the greenhouse effect, the sea would be 15-95 cm higher in 100 years than it is today, because the polar ice melts a little here and there.
Researchers also claim that some animal species will be completely extinct after a time, because they canīt adapt to climate change.
To slow down something as large as the greenhouse effect can be difficult and might not be done altogether, but just to slow it down, requires everyone's participation. This is something that affects us all and itīs our common problem. Together we can make a difference. For example, to start travelling by public transport or walk or cycle as much as possible is a very good start. To lower the inside temperature when you go away, choose train over flying, or shower a little quicker - it helps.
If everyone in Sweden keeps the speed limits, the carbon dioxide would be reduced with about one million tons per year. So keep the speed limits!
