The future and our climate

The future and our climate One very hot topic to discuss the last few years have of course been the climate, and climate changes. Almost every day you can read articles in different newspapers with urgent requests to start being ”climate smart” or more environmentally friendly, by buying new cars, new food and other products. But what will actually happen in the future if no one does anything to prevent this so called ”global warming”, what will the world look like? Well, let's start out with what would happen if no one in the world recycle their used products. First of all the earth would quite rapidly run out of its so called finite resources, which would result in the need of more and bigger landfills to put all the trash people throw away instead of recycling. If nothing is done to prevent the global warming effect, the earth will (in the forthcoming 50 years) be affected in many different ways. The sea levels would rise quickly, resulting in enormous floods, probably taking thousands of lives and cause damage for alot of money, we will see floods causing more damage than the one in New Orleans a couple of years ago.

The precipitation in the world will see quite drastic changes in both pattern and amount, which will lead to expansion of the subtropical deserts.

Glaciers, sea ice and also the permafrost will shrink, the same thing will probably happen to the Arctic. We can almost be sure that we will see more of extreme natural disasters in the form of tornados, tropical cyclones, hurricanes and floods. Some animal species will almost certainly die, for example birds will have problems laying eggs because they will have trouble making the substance that keeps the scale solid, the Amazon Rain Forrest will also shrink in size. Most countries in the world have signed the so called Kyoto protocol, where they agree on trying to lower the amount of greenhouse gas emissions per year. If everyone lived up to the expectations we would no longer see the negative development of the earth that we see today. Unfortunately some countries have increased their emissions, Spain is one example who increased their emissions by almost 50%. Actually, the amount of greenhouse gases that Sweden manages to reduce is insignifcant because it's not even 1% of China's emissions per year. To be honest I don't think mankind will be able to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions much more, the reason is that it costs too much money for some companies, therefore it's too risky. Then again I don't think that it is humans who cause most of the global warming, I think it's the sun that affects our climate, and then there is not much we can do to try to change our climate other than i.e. recycle our products so that our resources last longer.
