Fair Trade, the organisation |
“Fair Trade“ is an organisation which was founded after the second world war. The organisation helps people from developing countries. Many products we use every day are imported from these developing countries. Often traders from bigger and richer countries buy the products very cheap and the people in poor countries have to work very hard and the conditions of work are very bad. The “Fair Trade” organisation helps the families to save their livelihood. They improve the conditions of work, they eliminate unfair intermediary trade, they support the rights of the children and women and they support biological agriculture. The products of Fair Trade, which are marked by a special label, are offered in shops now almost everywhere. There’s a big variety of products. You can buy food like coffee, tea, cocoa, chocolate, fruits, rice, sugar but also products like clothes out of cotton or products like shoes or footballs. The problem is that the prices of these Fair Trade products are higher than normal products. Thus many people won’t buy the articles. They don’t want to pay more money and they ignore the fact that they can help poor people in developing countries by buying Fair Trade products. |
