Ben & Jerry’s – Fair trade ice cream |
What could be better than a sweet and tasteful ice cream in the middle of the summer? It was Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield from Burlington, Vermont, that started the company. Very fast they became popular in the local community and their big chunks of chocolate, fruit and nut became their signature. But the boys were not so good at paperwork, so after a while they had to think over what they should do for making the company better. How they could grow so big and get famous all over the world, as they say, is history. If I’m going to tell you my opinion I really have to say that I love Ben & Jerry's. And the flavour isn't only the nice thing with the ice cream. The best might be that the company year 2006 introduced their first fair trade product. Isn't that nice? I think so! The ice cream company that already makes ice cream that taste like heaven when you eat it thinks of the farmers that make the ingredients also. The first fair trade ice cream Ben & Jerry's created had a flavour of vanilla. So the farmers that make the vanilla get some extra money. That's what fairtrade is all about. Do something good for the farmers so they can help their families and communities. For example their kids can go to school and get an education or if they sometimes need healthcare. And maybe the most important, to live in a safe home and get food everyday. We asked some questions to the Ben & Jerry Company and one of them was: How can we be sure that the money goes to the farmers? - We didn't really get a very good answer on that question but a product can't be fairtrade without someone that approve it, right?? I believe in what I see on the website and that’s amazing. So in the future I will buy fairtrade products from Ben & Jerry's just because the farmers work really hard and they need the money so you should do it also. |
