Where To Go From Here |
The economy is at the forefront for everybody in the run up to an election, so here in the UK the politicians have a tough job to do. It is almost impossible to pick up a newspaper or turn on the radio and not see or hear about the effects of the recession, whether relating it to the infinite job losses or the numerous industries failing. The leaders of the political parties have been debating on how hard to cut spending, but in reality is there a choice? Can we do anything about it? Tax more and cut more is the general consensus, with tax debatably being put on everything possible. The areas that will be hit the hardest in the spending cuts are being announced. For a government to look successful front line services like the Police force, the National Health Service and education must be protected; therefore, the only place in which the parties differ is in the finer detail. As ‘Conference Season’ takes place eyes and ears are turned to the leaders of political parties as never ending questions are put forward with regards to government debt and getting us out of the recession, but no one is actually providing answers. All we hear from the main opposition is that there will be dramatic changes but more detail has yet to be announced. Shouldn’t the electorate be the first to know what their plans of running the country are? It is the ordinary working class people who are suffering the effects of this recession and it is debatable whether the political leaders understand this. Considering we are in a time when it has never been more important for politicians to share their plans clearly, they are more secretive and indecisive than ever. They need to face up to their duties and put solid plans in place to help the country out of the recession and guide our population back into a better economic situation. Do you think the government have really done enough to help their countries out of the current economic crisis? Emma Feather.
