As people feel the need to make sure that they are living as ethically as possible, more and more products are begging to bear the Fairtrade logo. But what fair trade products can you purchase? And what is the most obscure product?

Tea and coffee

Tea and coffee is the product which always springs to mind when someone mentions Fairtrade. However, this is just the start of what the foundation’s produce. In 2008, Fairtrade sold £137.3 million in coffee and £64.8 million in tea. After Bananas, coffee is the most popular Fairtrade product.

Bananas

Along with tea and coffee, bananas are also a typical Fairtrade product. They are the most popular product sold by Fairtrade, generating £163.6 million sales.

Sweets

Not the first item which you think about when Fairtrade springs to mind, but sweets are also another product that the Fairtrade foundation produces. Many manufacturers produce them, including Harrods, Asda and Morrisons.

Chocolate

Chocolate is another popular Fairtrade product which a variety of manufacturers produce. Green and Blacks is a company that not only make chocolate in the usual variety of flavours, but they also make a range of different types in sumptuous flavours in a variety of shapes and sizes.

Beer

Beer is not a product line which you would normally associate with the Fairtrade label, but it is becoming more and more popular. The Co-Op is a brand which is fully embracing the new range of Fairtrade products. The Co-Op also stock a number of Fairtrade wines and spirits, which aim to get a better deal for the farmers who grow the ingredients, as well as produce the superb taste.

Fabric

A product which would have been unimaginable 10 years ago, but now Marks and Spencer’s have launched a new Fairtrade cotton fabric, which they use in a number of their items. One of these is a sofa which is made from 100% Fairtrade products. As well as this, there are a number of other products which they manufacture from Fairtrade cotton including clothing. When the Fairtrade foundation was first launched, I’m sure they never would have guessed that Fairtrade would be so successful, and that the organisation would have had such a large impact on the world, but it did! However, as people become more and more eco minded, they feel that they have a duty to make a difference and care for the world in which they live. So, what change will you make?
