"Fältbiologerna" - Who are they ?

"Fältbiologerna" is an organization for youths in Sweden. They take care of problems with nature and they arrange camps. The members of the organization are between 7-25 years old and if you are a member you get a magazine 4-6 times a year.

A letter from the Netherlands

Frog It all began when some boys from Stockholm got a letter from the Netherlands. The letter was from a Dutch youth association that was occupied with nature studies. In the letter they wondered if some Swedish youths would like to take part in an International camp. No one was interested but Nils Dahlbeck in "Naturskyddsföreningen" knew some boys who might be interested. In the autumn of 1947 the Swedish "Fältbiologiska" youth association was formed. Knowledge about the nature was important for the first " Fältbiologerna". They would add to and spread knowledge about everything alive and they arranged lectures and camps. The special thing about the association besides the studies of nature was the strong conviction that they were a youth organization. They had no adult leader so the members had to take care of everything by themselves. By the end of the 60's the "Fältbiologerna" began to arrange some sort of campaign with attentive actions.

The cost for being a member is 100 Swkr annually, and besides getting a membership you get 4-6 issues of Fältbiologerna´s magazine. The members try to influence politicians to get things more environmentally friendly. They raise money to buy forest estates to become nature reserves. On some occasions there have been members trying to hinder freeway constructions and such, but in those cases the local clubs or districts have arranged it.

Primeval forest

Project 2000 is a project where in "Fältbiologerna" tries to save Sweden´s last primeval forest. The organization has bought a piece of forest estate in Värmland (in the central part of Sweden) and contribute to the protection of other areas. "Fältbiologerna" works globally in co-operation with other environment organizations abroad.

Save the wildforest

Forrest One of the projects "Fältbiologerna" is working with, is that they are trying to save the wildforest. In spite of effective protests from different environment movements concerning our old wildforest the Government has not yet given any reply. However, the Government has now put up a committee to find a solution where the forest nourishment will delay the felling in the future national park. In spite of this committee it hasn't prevented important areas to be damaged by reckless cutting, and species of birds and other small animals to be eradicated. "Fälbiologerna", "Naturskyddsföreningen" and Greenpeace have together written an appeal to the Government. The appeal is about the urgent situation and presents ideas about how the problems will be solved.
