On 12th and 13th of November pupils from Regent House Grammar School, N. Ireland and Scoil San Nicolas, Republic of Ireland met as part of their European Studies programme. Here is an account of the trip from two Regent House pupils:

As we set off towards Dublin traveling towards unknown territory, we allcrammed onto a school mini-bus and set off to meet our Irishcounterpartsfrom European Studies. On the way down we were all excited, but yet nervous because wedidn'tknow what to expect from the trip, and from the people we where about toencounter. The journey was long and uncomfortable as the bus was toosmallbut we enjoyed the gossip and the songs that we sang even though wecouldn't sing that well!!!

When we arrived at the youth hostel we all made a mad dash to the chocolate machines for supplies!! After we had all eaten we sat down and waited for our rooms and the Irish people. When they arrived there was a lot of tension and whispering as we tried to pick out who was in our cluster groups. With a day packed with visits we broke the ice and said HI!!!

After that we kept in our own groups as it was still strange, and had a look around the Irish Parliament. There we had a few laughs and we all started to make friends. After that you couldn't kept the two groups separated (you can see this from all the photo's) Next we were forced to look at some old bones in a museum!! which we talked throughout most of it. Then we where let loose in Dublin ready to shop and we all mixed groups and headed off to eat as well.

Going back to the hostel we got our rooms sorted out with our new found friends and realised how comfortable the beds in the hostel were. With a short rest in the hostel and with all the girls putting on their make -up for the boys that they fancied we headed off for the long walk to the IMAX Theatre to see a 3D movie which was funny. The guys got all dressed up for the occasion and for the girls as well!!! Heading home, it was quite late, although we all were hyperactive. We got back to the hostel and mucked around with everyone until the rest of Dublin was asleep and we talked into the small hours.

The next morning with everyone very tired because of our 2 hours sleep we rushed around Dublin shopping again before we had to go to the Dublinia museum and Christ Church Cathedral. We then had to say goodbye to our friends from Waterford. When we said goodbye to our new life long friends we all got upset as it was very quiet in Dublin without them.

We would love to go there again, though with a longer stay as we only just got to know each other before we had to separate.

We would like to thank the youth hostel for putting up with us and to Mr. Nelson and Mrs. Blair for organising it. But our BIGGEST THANKS go to all the pupils there as it was an unforgettable weekend with many new friends made. As a result of the weekend we are at present organising to meet everyone again and for them to come to Belfast and also another return trip to Dublin.
