Music

I would really like to establish why pop music groups such as "Steps" and "Boyzone" are so popular. These pop groups have hit the UK within the last decade and still in 1999 they seem to rule the pop charts. In my opinion they are just artificial and have no musical talent what so ever. It is not just the lack of musical talent that disturbs me but the fact that there is so many of these ridiculous pop groups that are all very similar ( eg 911, Another Level, Five, West Life etc) and seem to produce the same sort of music with no sense of individuality or originality. There are two things that should prove that they have very little musical talent, firstly many of these so called bands do not even write their own music and rely upon other people and secondly they mime these non original lyrics on the music show "Top Of The Pops".

When watching television a few weeks ago there was a program finding the best song, newcomer, etc of 1999. After many votes it was decided that "Steps" had produced the best song of 1999. I found this very hard to believe and it was actually quite comical to accept that a group such as "Steps" could achieve such an award. Has anyone thought that these sort of groups could be in the music business just for the money? or am I missing something here.
I think the only good that can come of these hideous pop groups is that children have non threatening role models.
It is also quite shocking to discover that when you ask the question "what music do you listen to?" many I have replied the "Radio" which I feel is mostly responsible for some or many people having such narrow minds I mean lets face it the Radio is just given to us. However there has been some exceptions such as "The Sterophonics" and "Radiohead" that do show some promise in my opinion.
The message I am trying send is that people should look beyond this artificial music and look for something that has a sense of quality and unfamiliarity. I know for example Classical music may seem unappealing to the majority of teenagers , but at least there is talented people playing and creating their own music. Maybe you should read "Kerrang" magazine once in a while?
