HISTORY OF EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP

The first European championship took place in 1927, organized by Austria to conflict the superiority from England and from Scotland. To this competition, call International Cup: Italy, Switzerland, Ungheria, Cecoslovachia and Austria took part. The final victory was adjudicated only after the end of three articulate championships. Italy won the first championship and before participating the second one won the Rimet cup (the actual cup of the world) too. The second tournement was won by "Wunderteam": Austria that taught in Europe. The third championship was won by Italy that could add to his scalps also the "Svelha-pokal", with this victory. Many nations devoted themselves to take part to the competition, but five nations, jealous of their championship decided to forbid the participation to the other participants.

The second edition bears in succession to the Second World War and to the butchery of Superga, in which the strongest Italian players (from Turin) died. From this event in then, for quite a lot years Italy will suffer a strong decline, while the countries of the European east will emerge. The first two championships were won from Cecoslovacchia and Ungheria, the last championship, to which adhered Yugoslavia had not finished. While the third championship was still in run the UEFA launched the European Championship for Nations in 1960. In the first edition, 1960, the most important teams were Italy, England, Scotland, Germany West, Belgium, Switzerland and Holland. They rebuffed the competition that was mapped very interesting, both from the point of sight of the game than from the point of political sight, in fact at the eve of the game among Russia and Spain, there was much strain because of the cold war, a challenge that could happen among two Countries without diplomatic reports, wasn’t played because the Spanish general: Franco, prevented it.
